Definitions
Metadata: This is additional information about a file that is held in the file but not part of the file’s main purpose. For example a JPG file contains an image, such as a photo from your phone camera. However it will also contain metadata about which camera took the photo, a geolocation tag and information such as the shutter speed and aperture. Similarly an mp3 file contains sound, but the metadata contains text and images. These are flexible but usually include album art and the artist’s name and track name.
